Constitution for the Mersea Island Society
Based on recommendations by the Civic Trust
Name
The name of the Society shall be the Mersea Island Society
Objects
The objects of the society shall be to promote and encourage the following objects by charitable means but not otherwise
-
to encourage high standards of architecture and town planning on Mersea Island

to stimulate interested in and care for the beauty, history and character of the Island it’s surroundings

to encourage the preservation development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historical interest

to pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, other forms of instruction and publicity and promotion or schemes of a charitable nature
Membership
Membership shall be open to all residents of Mersea Island who are interested in the aims of the Society. Associate membership (non-voting) is open to non-residents.
Subscriptions
The subscriptions shall be £5.00 per annum
Meetings
An Annual General Meeting shall be held in or about January of each year to receive the Executive Committee’s report and audited accounts and to elect Officers and Members of the Committee. The Committee shall decide when ordinary meetings of the Society shall be hld. Special General Meetings of the Society shall be called by the Executive Committee or at the request of 25 or more members. Thirty members personally present shall constitute a quorum for a meeting of the society at which voting takes place.
Officers
Nominations for the election of Officers shall be made 14 days before the Annual General Meeting. Such nominations shall be in writing, supported by a seconder and the consent of the proposed nominee must first have been obtained.
The election of Officers shall be completed prior t the election of further Committee members. The Officers of the Society shall consist of:
Chair, Deputy Chair, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Membership Secretary, Hon. Secretary

All of whom shall relinquish their office every year and shall be eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting.
Committee
The Executive Committee shall consist of 12 members, including the Officers. The Committee shall have power co-opt 3 further members to fill vacancies.
